One of a series of private label rebranding projects for Hi Health.

Original product was called "Just Deeelicious." Hi Health reformulated their protein bar and wanted the packaging to reflect a kind of magical whirlwind of taste.

The original product name was Monsoon, so a bright graphic "flavor" swirl seemed like a natural part of a re-dress. Designed in different colors for different flavors, this would have good visual "punch" on the retail shelf for both the bars and the cartons.

Previous Brand

The muted brand, although relevant at the time of creation, became dated next to cleaner, more modern brands. They needed to compete on shelf with a more colorful presence.

Brand Design

Applying a bright burst of color ignited new energy into the product branding. We integrated simple use of color and white space, ingredient photos, and visible product benefits creating an attractive bar that competes on shelf.

HI HEALTH: VITRA PROTEIN POWDER

Vitra Plant Protein was a new product for Hi-Health and they needed a brand design that would differentiate it from the crowded plant protein space. This is a very clean product with a simple ingredient list, therefore the design needed an uncluttered approach. Earthy yet vibrant colors led to the product’s appeal and offered a unique shelf presence.

Logo Design

The logo design resulted from the 4 clovers that is used in the product branding. The single petal over the “i” in the logo connects the concept story and brand design.

Detail Behind The Design

Since this is a clean, plant based protein powder, we needed to create a quick visual to convey the clean ingredient story, and a visual “peek” to what’s inside. A four-leaf clover design depicts the four natural grains in the product. The clover “petal” shape is based on the negative space within the letter “a” in Vitra.

Brand Design

The end result is an approachable design that generated curiosity and interest that differentiated it on shelf in the overcrowded and cluttered protein marketplace. When designing, we focus on the importance of understanding the client’s competitive landscape so that the finish product radiates appeal on shelf (or online) piquing customer interest.

Retail Merchandising Design

The Vitra’s retail merchandising display needed to represent the product’s clean, natural story, to draw consumer interest and curiosity. Using the existing store display assets we designed a customized display integrating natural fabrics, textures, and coordinating colors

Print Design

Vitra required a sophisticated printed brochure for its features and benefits. We designed a 4 panel fold out piece and chose a heavier, textured paper to align with the natural elements of the brand story.

Brand Extension Design

During our design phase, we created conceptual product designs to provide a visual for the potential of an expanded collection.

Hi-Health wanted to enter the growing probiotic market and needed a brand to compete. We established the name, then designed the brand around the calmer softer elements that probiotics provide. Each product was assigned a unique color that could merchandise on its own, or collectively for colorful, vibrant shelf presence.

Logo Design

The Chime logo design represents 2 converging droplets bringing calm, balance and wellness - the essence of this product collection.

Brand Design

The focal point in this design is the logo, representing the calm and wellness. It contrasts well with the vibrant colors that illuminate the product benefits. The products are inviting as a stand alone or collectively on shelf or online.

Print Design

This product collection had features and benefits that warranted a brochure. We designed a large folding piece that integrated the calm, soft textures with the colorful product design to accentuate the balance that the product collection represents.

Merchandising Design

A new product collection needed attention and focus at the forefront of their stores. We needed to utilize the existing merchandising assets therefore, the design focal point was Chime’s logo with soft, calm, cool colors. The result was a retail space the invited the customer to experience and explore the features and benefits.

Ultra Plan is Hi-Health’s private label brand that consists of 150 products across 13 health categories. They needed to upgrade their product brand to not only to compete on shelf but also online. We modernized the brand, updated the logo and carefully color coordinated the products to provide uniformity and reduce customer confusion.

After engaging in our one-on-one sessions and realizing the unique experience she brought to her clients, we established a framework that combines bright and muted colors against clean white space that provides a gracious appeal to all audiences. The banner consists of a multiple-colored layered and banded background behind Darleen’s logo and image and it serves as a metaphor for messaging transparency and her multifaceted “colorful” friendly approach. For years, Darleen has earned the well-respected title of “coach” from thousands of people who commonly refer to her as “Coach Dar” and her previous logo represented that.

Logo Design:

We updated her logo design by softening the emphasis on “coach” while creating appeal and balance with rounded contours. This logo is also available in many bright solid colors, allowing Darleen to personalize and color coordinate her branding by subject or refresh her messaging on social media.

While working with my business partner under our boutique agency, Blue Dot Branding, we had the pleasure of working with notMYkid. notMykid has been inspiring positive life choices for youth for more than 20 years with a mission to empower and educate youth, families, and communities with the knowledge and courage to identify and prevent negative youth behavior. They were seeking a complete brand refresh across their multitude of platforms. Their brand needed to remove the fear and stigma relating to their sensitive topics and represent the breadth of their programs and widespread youth outreach to attract donors such as corporate CEOs, school administrators, local and national politicians, parents, grandparents, and all community members. Branding & Website

notMYkid stressed the importance of bringing hope and aspiration to their branding. They needed a visual to quickly tell their their story, reflect their multiple program services and spread their message. We successfully achieved this with a colorful checkerboard - lending the ease of navigation and color coding. This signature design piece is presented on their website homepage, social media banners, brochure cover, integrated in their “Win This Year” podcast logo and in their headquarters to create a cohesive brand presence.

Another essential graphic design element is the org chart. During our exploratory assessment, we discovered that notMYkid was struggling with identifying a clear organizational hierarchy which created confusion for their customers. As the parent organization, notMYkid needed a graphic that depicted their ownership and authority over several programs & services they provide. We designed an org chart that quickly and easily identifies their programs and explain their business model - eliminating confusion which is essential when pitching to prospective donors.

Print Design

With a color palette established, we designed a print campaign and distinguished each program within the parameters of the checkerboard color scheme. We ensured that the brand guidelines were clear so that notMYkid is positioned to create additional program assets and maintain their brand continuity. The result is a colorful, bright, eye-catching brochure suite.

Folding Mailer: A Closer Look

notMYkid needed a collateral piece that would provide an all-encompassing, call-to-action guide to services. Their multifaceted business model encompassing a number of programs needed to be explained and visually appealing to their wide-range target audience. We designed this piece not only to serve as a direct mailer, but also provide a sophisticated brochure to present to parents, young adults, and potential donors.

Podcast Logo Design

notMYkid recently entered the podcast market and asked that we design their logo for their “Win This Year” podcast series. We integrated their signature checkerboard design to distinguish their logo from their competition and align with their newly established brand identity.

Social Media

notMYkid is highly active on all social media platforms and their brand needed continuity. We carried over the brand design to their popular social media outlets.

Once in a while, you get an opportunity to really think out-of-the-box, pie-in-the sky. The Barkminster Fuller was such a project. It was a dog house design and build competition benefitting the Arizona Humane Society.

I partnered with my good friend and fellow industrial designer and engineer, Ted Lubin, and my husband. All fans of the designs of Buckminster Fuller, we decided to embark on our dog house build as a tribute to his well known structures.
